Hack ITP brings together students, seasoned pros and non-technical builders for a weekend of building. The event only works if everyone feels safe, respected, and free to take part. This code applies to every attendee, mentor, judge, sponsor, volunteer, and organizer, for the whole event.
The short version
Respect yourself and others. Hack ITP is an inclusive, supportive space where everyone can learn and build safely. Harassment of any kind will get you removed. If something feels wrong, tell an organizer.
What we expect from you
Treat everyone with respect.
Respect the venue and leave the space better than you found it.
Give newer builders room to contribute and learn.
Ask before you photograph or record someone, and respect a no.
Follow the venue rules and the instructions of organizers and staff.
What is not acceptable
Any of the following will get you a warning or get you removed:
Harassment, intimidation, or discrimination based on gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, religion, age, disability, appearance, or any other characteristic.
Unwelcome sexual attention or advances, including sexual language or imagery in talks, projects, or shared spaces.
Deliberate intimidation, stalking, or following someone.
Disrupting talks, demos, or other people's ability to build.
Photographing or recording someone after they've said no.
Where and when this applies
This covers the whole weekend and every space it touches: the venue, the Discord and the event's online channels and social posts.
How to report a problem
If you experience or witness something, find an organizer in person or email melanie@hackitp.com. We'll treat reports seriously and discreetly. You don't have to decide whether something counts. If it felt wrong, tell us.
What happens next
The response team can take whatever action it decides is appropriate, up to and including a warning, removal from the event, and a ban from future events. Organizers can also involve ATV staff or local authorities if someone's safety is at risk.
A few things specific to this event
All skill levels are welcome. No one should be made to feel less capable for what they do or don't know yet.
We're here to build. Every attendee is responsible for their own behavior on-site, in line with this code.
We take photos and video for the recap and next year's promotion. Tell a photographer or an organizer if you'd rather stay out of them, and we'll respect it.
